Failed Water Pressure Reducing Valve in Oklahoma City, OK
This customer called and described symptoms of a failed water pressure reducing valve within the home. I informed as much, and he said he wanted to try changing some toilet fill valves in the home himself to see if that cured the whistling/banging noises; he had read about the solution on the internet.
Long story short, two weeks later he called and said his efforts hadn't helped any and asked me to come out and help. After a few quick tests I did in fact determine the problems were due to a compromised regulating valve. It's a 1" valve located inside the wall. The original builder/installer didn't allow for future access to service or replace the valve, so I opened the wall board just a little more than small access and provided and installed a new 1" whole house shut-off valve and new regulator, as well as removed the problematic stainless steel pipe clamps and replacing them with copper crimp rings.
The family thanked me vehemently for no longer having to hear the loud, high-pitched whistling and banging any time water was used in the home. As always, they also have a full 1-year guarantee on all labor and material.
